There’s something almost otherworldly about a grove of birch trees: straight white trunks drawn close together, branches thrown up to the sky, black markings on silvery bark. With every row, Birchgrove echoes its inspiration.

Take your pick: eye-catching one-skein wonder or snuggly, versatile accessory? Both sizes are designed to hold their own when paired with your favorite speckled or slightly variegated skeins and look great in solid and tonal colorways, too.

Knit in the round from the top down, Birchgrove flares dramatically—a feature that allows it to lay nicely and be easily worn while still keeping you cozy. No gaping necklines here! The large size is even roomy enough to pull down over your shoulders.

Lace borders are both written and charted. Birchgrove has been tech edited and test knit, so you can cast on with confidence.

NEEDLES 
US 2 / 2.75 mm 16” / 40 cm circular needles for working in the round, or size needed to obtain gauge; switching to 24” / 60 cm circular needles may be more comfortable as cowl grows to accommodate large number of stitches

NOTIONS 
14 stitch markers (preferably six of one type, seven of another, and one unique to mark start of round), tapestry needle

GAUGE 
24 stitches and 34 rounds = 4” / 10 cm in Stockinette Stitch after firm blocking. Gauge is not crucial but will affect yardage used and final dimensions.

TECHNIQUES
